One of the rising folk singers in the music scene, Rinku’s rise to fame has been fast.
Rinku’s songs represent the very essence and fragrance of rural Bangladesh. In-short, Rinku has been playing an important role in popularising folk songs among the young generation.
Since he made his debut in the music scene in 2005, Rinku has released six solo-albums, till date.
Rinku’s introduction to media happened through the 2005 Close up 1. He grabbed the attention of the audience for his vibrant rendition of Kanar haat-bazar, a Lalon song.
After Close up Rinku never looked back and so began Rinku’s journey to the musical arena.
For Mosiur Rahman widely known as Rinku, music is something to which he was introduced at a very early age. Recalling his days, Rinku says, “I was always inspired by my family especially by my maternal uncle, Rabiul Awal to learn music. I received my first lessons of music from him.”
“Born in a low-lying area (near Cholonbil) in Nowga district, I developed a sense and passion for folk music from my school days. I staged my first public performance at a school programme. I sang the Lalon song, O jar apon khobor aponar hoy na I was a student of class 9 or 10 then,” he continues.
“I went to Rajshahi for my higher education. There I had the opportunity to learn music from Ustad Mohammad Shahjahan. Before participating in Close up 1, I was an irregular singer for Bangladesh Betar Rajshahi for a period between 1992 and 2005,” he adds.
While speaking about Close up 1, Rinku says, “For me, Close up 1 was a strong platform which provided me with a much needed exposure. But, becoming 5th in the contest was not my ultimate goal. Since the contest, I have been training hard to bring out the best in me..”
Speaking about his albums and songs, Rinku says, “Since 2006 I have released six albums: Baul Mon (2006), Kanar Haat (2007), Gaanpagla (2008), Hawar Gari (2009), Fokir Lalon Boley (2010) and Bibagi (2011).”
Rinku’s latest album, Bibagi was released in the market on 11 April under the banner of Sangeeta. Speaking about the album, he says, “I am very excited about the album. It features 10 folk songs. Among the songs five are composed and written by SA Bipul while Plabon Quraishi has written and composed the rest. The songs Dukkho bhora ei din, Dondo and Ei jiboner ontoray and the title track of the album will give the audience something new.”
Speaking about his future plans, Rinku says, “I wish to continue singing folk songs for more years to come.”
