river transport oweners at a meeting on Sunday decided to implement government-fare chart by increasing 20 to 30 per cent fare during Eid trips.
The meeting was held at the Dhaka office of inland water transport (passenger service) owners association and ruling Awami League leader Mahbubuddin Birbikram presided over the meeting.
Among others, JP lawmaker Golam Kibria Tipu, Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Saidur Rahman Rintu, vice presidents of the organisations and other leaders of the association attended the meeting.
The meeting decided that they would operate special trips from five days before and ten days after the Eid festival and would excute the government-fixed fare chart, Rintu said.
Booking for cabin seats would start on July 26 and every day during special trips at least 6 to highest 11 triple-deck launches will ply from each end of Barisal-Dhaka-Barisal route considering the rush of the passengers, he told.
During the 15-day special trips, oneway fare for per passenger on Barisal-Dhaka-Barisal route on deck would be increased to Tk 250-270 from the present rate of Tk 180-200, fare for sofa-seat would be increased to Tk 600 from Tk 450-500 and fare for cabin-seat would be increased to Tk 1,000-1,200 from the present Tk 800-850.
