Two persons including a class-V student were killed in road accidents at the capital’s Demra and Jatrabari yesterday.
The dead were identified as Monir Hossain, 13, a student of Mannan Government Primary School and a resident of Basherpole at Konapara in Demra, while Afaz Uddin, 55, a resident of Konabari in Gazipur sadar.
Monir was crossing Demra Road at Basherpole around 7:30am when a vehicle hit him and ran away leaving him dead on the spot, said Officer-in-Charge Nurul Mottakin of Demra Police Station quoting locals.
Duty officer of the police station said the victim’s family did not file any case and took the body without postmortem.
Monir used to work at a refrigerator workshop in the area, said the OC.
Police and victim’s family members, however, could not ascertain where Monir was going at that moment.
Meanwhile, a truck hit and critically injured Afaz around 7:30am in front of Jatrabari Wholesale Market.
Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injury at about 8:30am.
Afaz was standing by the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Jatrabari when the accident occurred, witnesses said. The truck was pulling backward and hit Afaz unawares.
The truck driver escaped the scene, police said.
