An alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob at Alekerchar village in Comilla Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdul Matin alias Motinya Dakat of the upazila’s Amratoli village.
Police and locals said, at about 2:30am, a gang of six robbers stormed into the house of a local businessman of Alekerchar village. When the villagers came to know, they surrounded the house, the sources added.
Comilla Kotwali Police Station Office-in-Charge Mohiuddin Mahamood said, though the other bandits managed to flee the scene, the villagers caught hold of one of the bandits and beat him mercilessly, leaving him spot dead.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The OC said Matin was wanted in a number of criminal cases including robbery and murder.
