Rajshahi University authorities accorded a reception to the freshers under the academic session 2012-13 at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium on the campus on Saturday.
RU vice-chancellor Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin presided over the reception programme while pro-vice-chancellor Professor Sarowar Jahan was present as special guest.
Prof Mizauddin said, beside education and research, university is a place from where students should enrich their all kinds of social values and broaden mind.
In the age of globalisation and communication-technology, students have to face challenges of new technology. The purpose of education is to acquire knowledge from reality and to engage it for the betterment of country and mankind, he added.
He, however, called upon freshers for keeping themselves away from evil forces in the holy institution adding that there was no place for the evils in the university.
RU registrar Professor Nazrul Islam, students’ advisor Sadekul Arefin Matin, science faculty dean Muhammad Anwarul Islam and teachers’ association general secretary Sultan-ul-Islam also addressed the function, among others.
Fowjia Rahman and Mozammel Hossain, student of social work and geology and mining department respectively received the flower bouquet on behalf of the freshers.
A cultural programme followed the reception.
