Rajshahi University is celebrating its 60th founding anniversary today.
The authorities have chalked out different programmes including colorful procession, discussion and cultural programme to celebrate the university day amid festivity and enthusiasm.
Academic buildings, residential halls and main streets have been decorated and painted on the occasion.
The university vice-chancellor, Professor Mizanuddin, will inaugurate the programme at 10:00am releasing balloons and pigeons in front of the university administrative building.
National and university flags will be hoisted atop senate building, administrative building, VC’s residence, central library and all student dormitories.
A colourful procession with the participation of teachers, students and university staff will be brought out on the campus.
Later, a discussion will be held at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium.
Besides, the authorities have organised a tree plantation programme at the west side of the main administrative building.
The daylong programmes will end with a cultural function at the university auditorium.
The university started its journey on July 6, 1953 with 6 departments under 3 faculties with only 161 students and 68 teachers with Professor Itrat Hossain Zuberi as the founding vice-chancellor.
It has now about 26,000 students and around 1,235 teachers in 48 departments under 9 faculties, 5 research institutes including 18 residential halls for male and female students.
