Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall authorities at Rajshahi University have imposed restriction on using luxurious mobile phones, computers, laptops, audiovisual devices, ornaments and keeping cash in the hall rooms.
The residential students, however, demanded withdrawal of the restriction as there is no such restriction at other halls of the university.
Sources said that the hall administration put up a notice signed by provost of the hall imposing restriction on using valuable things on Sunday.
After the Eid vacation, the authorities opened the hall on September 17 and, on the pretext of ensuring security, imposed the restriction.
In the notice, the authorities mentioned that if mobile phones, computers, laptops, audiovisuals devices, ornaments and cash were stolen or lost, the hall administration would not take any responsibility as well as they (administration) would not try to find out the stolen things.
The residential students of the hall expressed deep concern over the matter and criticised the decision of the hall authorities.
Mamunur Rashid, a student of the hall, told New Age, ‘Mobile phones, laptops were now a part of our study but the authorities imposed restriction on the use of these things.’
The Progressive Students’ Alliance highly criticised the decision of the hall authority to impose restriction on using the necessary things.
When contacted, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall provost Professor SA Hayder Ali told New Age, ‘We have imposed the restriction to ensure security of the residential students.’
