Residential students of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque Hall at Rajshahi University staged demonstrations on Sunday after they found body parts of rats in their meals served at the hall dining room.
Agitating students beat up the chief cook of the hall dining Sultanul Islam.
The hall sources said Abdul Matin, a student of the hall found body parts of rats in the chicken curry while he was having lunch at around 2:00pm.
Matin, along with his friends, informed the chief cook of the matter but he denied the allegation.
The agitating students started beating Sultan who was later rescued by the police from the students.
As the news spread, more than 200 students of the hall staged demonstrations against the hall authorities and demanded removal of the hall provost. They also damaged some chairs and tables of the dining room.
Informed, the university proctor, Choudhury Zakaria, along with police forces and assistant proctor, rushed to the hall.
The students withdrew their agitation as the proctor assured them of looking into the matter.
The proctor told New Age that legal action would be taken against the guilty men.
Officer-in-charge of Motihar police Abul Khayer told New Age that Sultan admitted to the allegation during primary interrogation.
‘Action will be taken against Sultan as per the order of the university authorities,’ he added.
