A students’ rally at Rajshahi University on Sunday accused the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party of patronising Jamat-Shibir terror and called for ensuring peaceful campuses.
About three hundred students of the university joined the rally organised by Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus in the morning.Speakers at the rally said that BNP and Jamaat were enforcing hartals frequently without considering the problems of the students during the Higher Secondary Certificate Examinations.
They said BNP was backing the terrorism of Jamaat-Shibir to foil the trial of the war criminals.
The speakers asked the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir to refrain from destructive political activities.
Elias Hossain, Shafikuzzaman Shafik and Mir Towhidur Rahman Titu, Rokonuzzaman Rintu and Rocky Ghosh address the rally.
RU unit BCL president Ahmed Ali presided over the gathering while general secretary Abu Hossain Bipu coordinated it.
A procession was brought out on the campus after the rally.
Meanwhile, resident students of different halls told reporters that BCL men had forced them to join their programme.
Several students of Bangabandhu Hall, Shah Makhdum Hall and Syeed Amir Hall alleged that BCL activists had gone to their rooms and warned them of ‘dire consequences’ if they did not join the rally.
The BCL RU unit president said he was not aware of the matter.
