A Rajshahi University teacher was removed from temporarily for cheating students through a fake multi-level-marketing business on the campus.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting held Thursday night with the university vice-chancellor Professor Mizauddin in the chair.The accused teacher, Zulfiquar Ahmed, was an associate professor of law department.
Syndicate member and also dean of business faculty Professor Amzad Hossain confirmed the decision was taken against Zulfiquar Ahmed as he deceitfully took thousands of taka from the students in the name of an outsourcing-based MLM company named Quia-Timet Quality (Int.) Ltd situated at the Stadium Market on the campus.
Zulfiquar Ahmed also allegedly embezzled a huge amount of money from people in the name of earning-based Pay to Click by establishing another MLM company named Quia-Lancer at his village home in Satkhira.
Zulfiquar Ahmed in the name cash-back took about Tk 12,000 to Tk 15,000 for a year from the students as registration fees while he closed the business after a few months showing loss, but he was yet to return the registration money to the students.
In a probe the accusation against Zulfiquar was found true and the university syndicate decided to remove him temporarily, sources said.
For further investigation, a probe body consisting of five members was formed with the university treasurer Professor Sayen Uddin.
It has been asked to submit its report within 15 working days.
Accused Zulfiquar Ahmed could not be reached by telephone for his comment.
