After a week-long pause since the high-geared campaign of December 29 parliamentary polls, the rural areas of the district again become vibrating with the starting of electioneering centering January 22 upazila elections.
Candidates belonging to different political parties and individual backgrounds have already begun work to manage the support of respective parties and influential persons to make sure their victory in the coming polls.
Officials as well as people in general expects that next upazila election would also be a held in a neutral and peaceful manner like December 29 JS polls.
A total of 307 candidates for the post of chairman, vice chairman and female vice chairman are contesting in 14 upazilas in the district in ensuing January 22 upazila election, local election commission sources said.
Of the total candidates, 116 have been vying for the post of chairman, 131 for vice chairman (male) and 60 for female vice chairman.
Mohammed Dulal Talukder, district election officer-1 told BSS that most of polling centers and booths used for just ended JS polls would remained unchanged for next upazila election and election conducting officials would also be selected from the persons were appointed for JS election.
He said preparations to hold the upazila polls in a peaceful and well-organized manner are underway as per directives of the EC.
