Batsman Nasir Hossain’s predicament is unlikely to end anytime soon as the Cricket Board Committee of Dhaka Metropolis is all set to replace him with Sabbir Rahman as the icon player for the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League. Nasir was one of the six icon players in Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament and was touted as icon for the DPL alongside Mashrafee bin Murtaza, Sakib al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal.
He fell from the grace of national team management recently and was forced to remain content with just one game in the ICC World Twenty20. BCB officials publicly accused Nasir of insincerity, which seemed to have cost him his place as DPL icon.
The CCDM is expected to announce the name of six icon players today for the players’ draft, slated for April 10. Each of the icon players will receive Tk 30 lakh while the maximum wage for the other categories is Tk 25 lakh.
Sources said CCDM initially considered Mustafizur Rahman as an icon player but later dropped the idea as the paceman is unlikely to play a significant part in the league.
Mustafiz will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League scheduled from April 9 to May 29. He will then fly for England to play for the county side Sussex.
