The nightingale of Bangla songs Sabina Yasmin is scheduled to go to Kolkata on Friday to perform in two concerts.
Famous in Bangladesh and also popular in Paschim Banga, Sabina Yasmin has been invited by the famous Indian singer Usha Uthup.
To mark the 43rd year of Usha Uthup’s dominant presence in India’s music arena, an indoor concert will be arranged tomorrow in Kolkata stadium. Sabina Yasmin, along with leading Bollywood playback singers like Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and others, will sing their famous numbers on the occasion.
Usha Uthup and Sabina Yasmin began their career in music almost at the same time in two different countries in dissimilar genres. In the long run of their career, both of them have carved a name for themselves in their country’s music industry and their friendship also grew along their journey on the road to glory.
To reciprocate to a friend’s call, Sabina will sing to celebrate Usha’s overriding career in Indian music.
‘Usha Uthup requested Sabina Yasmin over telephone to attend and perform on the occasion,’ personal secretary to Sabina Yasmin, told New Age.
‘She is scheduled to sing in a Pahela Baishakh celebration concert at Durgapur in Paschim Banga, where Bappi Lahiri will also perform,’ he added.
Sabina Yasmin will return to Bangladesh on next Tuesday.
The winner of all state and national awards including Swadhinata and Ekushey Padak Sabina Yasmin began her career in the early 1970s, and has already over 1500 playback songs and several famous patriotic and folk songs in her credit. Her popularity has overcome the borders of Bangladesh and reached the shores abroad.
