Deposed national cricket captain Sakib al Hasan said that he harboured mixed feelings about the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s decision to strip him of the captaincy on Monday.
The BCB sprang a huge surprise when they axed Sakib, vice captain Tamim Iqbal and manager Tanjeeb Ahsan Saad after their leadership failed to produce a satisfactory outcome in the just concluded Zimbabwe tour.
‘Frankly speaking, it is neither a particularly good news for me not is it a very bad news,’ Sakib told New Age on Monday.
Sakib apparently paid the price for his off-field behaviour as the BCB could not fault his on-field performance in the Zimbabwe tour which was reasonably good, even though some officials were skeptical about his commitment.
The reports prepared by Shafiqur Rahman Munna, the team’s head of delegation in Zimbabwe and touring selector Habibul Bashar, who both criticised Sakib for his off-field man management skills, are said to have influenced the decision of BCB directors.
‘I am yet to hear anything from the BCB. I came to know about their
decision from journalists. None of the officials have told me anything,’ said the all-rounder.
‘However, I respect whatever decision the board has taken and I will lend my full support to the new captain. My job is to perform and I will try to do that to the best of my abilities,’ he said.
