Telenor Youth Summit Idea Contest
Safa, Sami of IBA win
Safa Tasneem and Sami Tahsin of the Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University have won the Telenor Youth Summit Idea Contest.
Their idea Bipod Barta allows instant notification to law enforcing agency and family members during danger or emergency and filing legal complaint regarding any crime using a mobile phone, said a press release.
The final took place on Saturday where the teams presented their ideas in front of the judges’ panel consisting Concern Worldwide country director AKM Musha, The Daily Star managing editor Salehuddin Ahmed, DNet executive director Ananya Raihan and Grameenphone CTO Tanvir Mohammad.
Norwegian ambassador Ragne Birte Lund and Grameenphone CEO Vivek Sood distributed the awards among the winners.
The champion team will go on to participate in the Telenor Youth Summit at Oslo on December 9 – 11. They will represent Bangladesh in the summit along with other global talents from all around the world. The team will also get a chance to attend in different workshops and seminars during the Nobel prize giving ceremony, which will be taking place during the same time.
With a vision to create new solutions for positive social change and the underlying belief that mobile technology and internet can help to achieve this, the inaugural Telenor Youth Summit is set to take place in Oslo, Norway in December this year.
The local competitions were held to select representatives from each country where Telenor has operations.
The event was carried out in Bangladesh by Grameenphone, the Telenor affiliate in Bangladesh. The event was launched on August 8 through Facebook with youths aged 18-25 from across the country being invited to submit their ideas that can bring about positive social changes.
More than 400 entries were submitted through the Facebook application created especially for this summit and based on their feasibility and merit, 28 ideas were shortlisted.
Five teams were chosen for the grand finale.
The ideas and the people who made it to the finale are Bipod Barta (Safa Tasneem and Sami Tahsin from IBA), Shurokkha (Sumayea Tabassum and Adel Mostaque Ahmed from IBA), Bat Book (Debojit Saha and Mohammed Masudur Rahman from IBA), Voice Box (Rageeb Kibria and Rumana Rafiq Ullah from North South University) and Craft Store (Ayman Sadiq and Ryan Fardin Sakib from IBA).
