The 26 crew, freed by Somali pirates after 99 days of confinement on board the Bangladesh-flagged ship MV Jahan Moni, will arrive Chittagong from Oman this afternoon, a day ahead of the schedule.
Captain Golam Mostafa, company security officer of the ship’s
operating firm, said the 26 Bangladeshis along with the officials of the ship would reach Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong at 3:05pm by Oman Airways.
Family members of most of the crewmembers will receive them at the airport.
As all the formalities including medical check up of the crewmembers would be completed within tonight, all the physically fit crew would go home tomorrow, said Mostafa.
On arrival, the crew would be taken to a local hotel but transport would be given to reach Dhaka or any other destination if anybody wants, he added.
Twelve out the 26 freed Bangladeshis are from Chittagong.
Although the owner company booked the air tickets of March 22, now the crew are being brought a day ahead, he also said.
Jahan Moni along with 25 crewmembers and the wife of its chief engineer was taken hostage by Somali pirates on December 5 last year after being hijacked in the Arabian Sea off the coast of India. Six days later, the ship anchored off the Somali coast near Garacad.
The Bangladesh flag carrier was freed on March 14 after 99 days into hijacking.
It berthed safely at the Salalah port in Oman around 11:25am (BST) on Saturday, five days after its release.
