Bangladesh’s one-day ranking has declined sharply after they lost to Zimbabwe 3-2 in the just-concluded series, the International Cricket Council said on Tuesday.
Though the Tigers maintained their ninth place in the ranking, they dropped seven crucial points, sliding from 70 to 63. Zimbabwe also remained stuck in the10th place though they added eight points to take their tally to 46 with three wins against a superior side ranking-wise.
Bangladesh’s recent dip in performance can be attributed to the patchy form of the team’s leading left-arm spin duo of Abdur Razzak and skipper Sakib al Hasan, who both have slipped four places in the ICC Rankings for ODI Bowlers to 14th and 17th respectively.
While the spinners struggled to find their feet in Zimbabwe, arguably with the possible exception of Mahmudullah who has moved 28 places up to 73rd after bagging six wickets including three in the final game, the Tigers’ pace attack showed promising signs of progress on the tour.
Rubel Hossain led the way with 11 wickets to finish as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the series and his exploits saw him jump 71 places to 54th spot in the bowlers’ rankings. Fellow seamer Shafiul Islam, who took five wickets in Zimbabwe, has also moved up 28 places in the rankings to 73rd position despite not being at his best.
In the batting stakes, Sakib al Hasan moved three places up to 24th while Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored his maiden ODI century in the third one-dayer, jumped six places to 60th in the ODI Batsmen’s rankings.
Mahmudullah also moved to 72nd position (up four places) courtesy of his unbeaten 60 in the final game but the Tigers trio of left-handers – Imrul Kayes, Junaid Siddique and Shahriar Nafees – plummeted to 52nd (down 11 places), 80th (nine places down) and 95th (six places down) respectively.
