Bangladesh all-rounder Sakib al Hasan was crowned sixth most valuable player in the just-concluded Indian Premier League that saw him winning the title for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Glenn Maxwell, the Australian batsman of Kings XI Punjab, won cash prize money of Indian Rs 10 lakh as the most valuable player after his incredible batting display throughout the competition.Maxwell won 286 points but Sakib, who played three matches fewer than the Australian, was not too behind.
The Bangladesh talisman, who grabbed 11 wickets and scored 227 runs in his 13 matches, achieved 238.5 points.
Nine other players, who made it into top 10, played at least one more match than Sakib.
Sakib got 18.34 points on average in each game, meaning if he had the chance to play all 16 KKR matches in the tournament, he could have toppled Maxwell as the most valuable player.
Apart from Sakib, only two other KKR players – Robin Uthappa (third) and Sunil Narine (seventh) – were on the list of 10 most valuable players of IPL-7.
Sakib made a valuable contribution in the final, conceding just 26 runs in his four overs of the high-scoring game before scoring 12 runs from just seven balls.
He was economical throughout the tournament, giving away 6.68 runs per over. Only Narine had better economy rate for KKR as the West Indian conceded 6.38 runs in an over on average.
