Former Bangladesh captain Sakib al Hasan has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to provide him with a break during the forthcoming Zimbabwe tour, said a senior BCB official on Wednesday.
‘He has given us a letter and we forwarded it to the coach and trainer. Once we get their opinion we will take a decision about it,’ said Enayet Hossain Siraj, the chairman of cricket operations committee of the BCB.
Sakib is among the 15-man Bangladesh squad for the trip, which features an unofficial tri-series Twenty20 tournament involving hosts Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Sakib has been playing cricket continuously for the last two years without any major break. He returned from India on May 29 after a grueling campaign in the Indian Premier League, which his Kolkata Knight Riders won.
He only had a 24-hour break before putting on a match-winning performance for Victoria Sporting Club in their crucial Dhaka Premier League re-match against Abahani Limited.
The league will end on June 8 just four days before Bangladesh embark Zimbabwe tour.
The all-rounder, who came to the BCB office on Wednesday and was formally introduced to new coach Richard Pybus, however, did not make any comment on his request for a break.
‘I am now only thinking about the match on 8th June [between Victoria and Prime Bank Old DOHS]. Only then I can talk about it,’ Sakib told reporters.
Victoria will be crowned as the league champions if they beat Prime Bank in the match scheduled at Fatullah stadium.
