Mohammad Salahuddin, former fielding coach of the national cricket team and currently working with the GP-BCB National Cricket Academy, has resigned his BCB post on Saturday to join the University Kebangsaan of Malaysia.
Salahuddin will work at the university, which is also the national university of Malaysia, as the high performance coach on a two-year contract starting from March, 2011.
Salahuddin, one of the six level-3 coaches of the country, joined the BCB in 2005 and had been working in various capacities since then. He was the fielding coach of the Tigers until July last year.
One of the most sought-after local coaches by the national players, Salahuddin was instrumental in rectifying the bowling action of Abdur Razzak after he was reported by the umpires.
‘This is the reality as I have to support my family. It will also give me a chance to explore a new horizon which I love to do always,’ Salahuddin told New Age after submitting his resignation letter to the chief executive officer of the BCB.
‘I am grateful to all the coaches – Dav Whatmore, Shaun Williams and Jamie Siddons – whom I worked with,’ said Salahuddin.
‘I am also very proud and privileged to work with the best generation of Bangladeshi cricketers. I have had fantastic experience and wonderful memories,’ said Salahuddin.
Asked about any regret Salahuddin said he was wrongly branded as specialised fielding coach.
‘I think it was wrong to give me a tag of fielding coach. I was also looking after the spinners and the batsman during that time,’ said Salahuddin.
Head coach Jamie Siddons feels Bangladesh have lost one of the best local coaches with the departure of Salahuddin. ‘Bangladesh have lost one of the best coaches and perhaps the only spin coach,’ said Siddons after Salahuddin met him at the academy ground to say goodbye.
Spinner Razzak said he will miss Salahuddin badly, who had coached him since his days at the BKSP.
‘I will miss him to say the least. I needed his guidance and I am here because of him,’ said Razzak.
