Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin on Sunday instructed the development committee to halve the number of coaches paid by the Asian Football Confederation so that a foreign coach can be employed for the Sylhet Football Academy.
AFC provides the fund for paying 20 development coaches but BFF president claimed that at least half of the coaches lack quality and the remaining half are capable of running all the programmes.
‘I told Badal [development committee chairman Badal Roy] to reduce the number to 10,’ Salahuddin told reporters on Sunday.
‘I believe 10 quality coaches are enough to run the all development programmes and if we reduce the number then it will be easier for us to appoint a foreign coach for the Sylhet Academy.’
After getting the instruction from the BFF boss, the development committee also discussed the matter in their meeting on Sunday.
‘I raised the point in our meeting but we haven’t taken any final decision,’ said Badal. ‘Before taking the decision we will have to review the performances of our existing coaches.’
Badal said that they formed a five-member committee, headed by former national player Sheikh Mohammed Aslam, to review the performances of the coaches and they will take the decision after assessing the committee report.
‘The committee will review the coaches’ performances and will recommend us whether we should reduce the number of coaches or not,’ Badal said.
The one year contract of 20 coaches will end on December 31 and BFF technical director BA Jubair Nipu will also give his evaluation report to the review committee.
Currently four AFCA-licensed coaches, 14 AFC B-licensed coaches and two AFC C-licensed coaches are employed under the development committee of the BFF.
Coaches often alleged that they had to sit idle most of the time
as the BFF cannot provide them any work.
The move came on a day when the BFF itself issued a press release seeking applications for the fresh appointment of development coaches.
