Sammilita Knit Parishad panel, led by incumbent Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association president AKM Salim Osmam, won 22 out of 27 director posts of the association in the election held on Saturday.
Progressive Knit Alliance panel, led by former BKMEA president MD Fazlul Haque, won the rest five posts.
The elected directors will elect a president and four vice-presidents today for the executive committee for 2012-14 tenure.
The win of Sammilita Parishad paved the way for Salim Osman to retain his post as president.
A total of 598 out of 652 voters cast their vote at Narayanganj and Dhaka centres between 9:00am and 4:00pm Saturday.
A total of 27 candidates contested the poll under Sammilita Knit Parishad banner and 25 under the Progressive Knit Alliance banner.
AKM Selim Osman-led Sammilita Knit Parishad candidates AKM Selim Osman, Mohammad Hatem, Habibur Rahman, Monjurul Haq, Shajahan Alam, Golam Jakaria Bhuiyan Monju, Abu Ahmed Siddik, Monsur Ahmed, GM Faruk, AH Aslam Sani, Shamim Ahmed, Syamol Kumar Shaha, Shafikuzzaman, Humayun Kabir Khan Shilpi, Asadul Islam, Samsuzzaman, Mostofa Kamal Pasha, Jamal Uddin, Mohiuddin Faruki, Mahatabuddin Choudhury and Mujibur Rahman were elected.
On the other hand Fazlul Haq-led Progressive Knit Alliance panel candidate Fazlul Haq, Fazle Ehsan Shamim, Kashem Jamal, AKM Zahidul Haq Bhuiyan Dipu and Masuduzzaman were elected.
