Bangladesh’s Sanjida Akter made it to the top 10 in the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship top scorers list, said an official of the Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday.
Midfielder Sanjida, who caught the attention with her remarkable performance in October’s qualifying round in Dhaka, scored four goals in as many matches which earned her the seventh place in the top 10 scoring chart.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin praised Sanjida for her success and said it’s a great achievement for her as well as for all the Bangladeshi football fans.
‘If we can nurse her properly then I’m sure in future she will take the nation’s women’s football to a higher level,’ said a proud BFF president.
The 15-year old girl from Maymensingh, who is waiting for her Junior Secondary Certificate examination result, refused to join the SAFF Women’s Championship camp due to her examination.
Liang Kai-Jou of Chinese-Taipei topped the highest scorers list with 10 goals while two Iranian forwards Fatemeh Geraeli and Fatemeh Ghasemi scored eight and seven goals to be placed second and third respectively.
Though Bangladesh failed to qualify for the final round, they finished eighth among 15 participating teams for their achievement of scoring seven goals in four games. They ended third in the Group B with two victories and two defeats.
