The police on Friday recovered the bodies of an officer of the Special Branch and his wife from their residence in the capital’s Chamelibagh.
The couple — Mahfuzur Rahman , 48, inspector of SB, and his wife Swapna Rahman, 40 — were hacked to death 24-48 hours back, the police suspected.
Their daughter, Oishi, an O level student in Oxford
International School, remained missing since Friday morning, said police.
Mehedi Hasan, additional commissioner of Motijeel zone of the DMP, told New Age that the Paltan police had recovered the bodies at around 4:30pm on Friday from a bathroom of the couple’s flat at Chameli Mansion at Chamelibagh of Shantinagar.
There were marks of slashes all over the bodies of the victims. Four or five people might have been involved in committing the double murder, said Mosarraf Hossain, deputy inspector general of SB police.
ADC Mehedi said Oihi, the 7-year-old son of the couple, who used to sleep with his parents in the same room, did not find them on the bed after he woke up on Thursday morning.
He informed his sister Oishi, who was preparing to go out, about the matter but she told him that their parents might have left the house after a row.
Oishi then took Oihi to a friend’s house at Kakrail, where the siblings stayed overnight.
After they left the friend’s house on Friday morning, Oishi sent Oihi back home in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, Mehedi told New Age quoting Oihi.
Oishi also phoned her uncle’s brother Rabiul informing him that she was sending Oihi home and asked him (Rabiul) to wait there.
When Oihi came home, he found the house locked and informed the SB about the matter with the help of Rabiul.
Police broke open the door and found the bodies of the couple in the bathroom attached to Oishi’s room at around 4:30pm.
Police found no trace of Oishi since the incident, said the ADC.
Neighbours told New Age that they had heard a sound of doors banging on Thursday night.
A police officer preferring not to be named told New Age that they did not rule out the idea that Oishi might have been involved in the killings.
Oishi’s uncle Iftekharul Islam told New Age that Oishi lived an indisciplined life and often returned to house late at night.
Amjad, caretaker of the house, said that Oishi’s father had asked him on August 4 to keep an eye on her so that she could not leave the house.
Police recovered one knife and a machete from the house.
The motive for the killings was still not clear, said Mehedi.
Police detained Shahinur and Motaleb, two guards of the house, for questioning.
On February 11, 2012, journalist couple Sagar and Runi were stabbed to death in their flat in the capital’s West Razabazar in the city.
