The Supreme Court Bar Association on Tuesday demanded the Home Minister’s resignation for his declaration of banning rallies and procession for a month across the country.
It also threatened to launch a tough movement against the government, if the ban was not withdrawn within 48 hours. The SCBA has taken these decisions at an emergency meeting held in the South Hall of the SCBA building.
The SCBA organised the meeting in protest of the government’s order that imposed ban order on holding rallies and procession across the country for the next month.
SCBA president Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali presided over the meeting while secretary of the SCBA Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon conducted the meeting. Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah Advocate Zainul Abedin and Advocate Golam Mohammad Chowdhury Alal also spoke, among others, at the meeting.
Moudud Ahmed said, the government snatched the people’s constitutional right. The people of the country would not accept the so called ban order, he added.
He urged the government to withdraw its verbal order immediately. The country’s people are determined to hold rallies and procession violating the order, if it does not withdraw its order immediately, he added.
He also said, three governments are now existed in the country. One is led by Prime Minister, another by LGRD Minister and the other one is led by the Home Minister. Their controversial statements proved that they had failed to discharge their duties, he added.
“The democracy is totally absent in the country at this time as the government snatched the constitutional right of the people without any direction by imposing ban order on holding rallies and procession in the country. This declaration is against the spirit of democracy as it has no basis,” he noted.
Rafiqul Islam Miah said, the government is trying to establish BAKSAL through this order.
