Exempts their residences from holding taxes, water bill
The Sylhet City Corporation authorities declared residences of freedom fighters exempted from holding taxes and drinking water supply charges in the city.
SCC mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury made the announcement at a reception of freedom fighters on Monday. The city corporation organised the programme at Nagar Bhaban, marking Victory Day.
Arif said the decision to exempt the freedom fighters’ residences from the holding taxes and water supply charges in the city had already been taken by a meeting of the city corporation authorities.
‘Soon, the decision would also be implemented,’ he said.
Arif also added that the corporation would take an initiative to keep marked and separated the graves of freedom fighters at Manik Pirtila graveyard in the city.
Freedom fighter Rafiqul Haque, SCC chief
executive officer Mehedi Hasan, councillor Rezaul Hasan Kayes Ludi, Taufiqul Hadi and Abdul Muhith Zaved, among others, addressed the reception, sources in Nagar Bhaban said.
The corporation authorities also gave financial grants to 165 freedom fighters in the reception programme, the sources said.
