Dhaka Metropoli-tan School Football tournament began on Wednesday at the Kamalapur stadium with the participation of 41 schools from the capital.
Saint Joseph’s High School defeated Senapalli High School in the inaugural match 4-3 in tie-breaker after the stipulated time ended at 1-1. Sadman and Abu Yusuf scored the goals for their respective sides.
Chairman of the Bangladesh Football Federation’s school football committee Mahfuzur Rahman, also chairman of the ATN Group, inaugurated the tournament. Mahfuzur Rahman hoped this competition will work as a platform for the young talents.
He promised to take special initiative to nurture the best 41 footballers of the championship.
‘I personally will look after the best footballers of each team until they become matured. I will take care of their family as well if
they need support,’ said Mahfuzur Rahman.
The chairman also declared prize money of Tk 1 lakh for the champions and Tk 50,000 for the runners-up team.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin said: ‘There is no other alternative to training the players from the very early age in order to get the future footballers.’
Salahuddin hoped the tournament will produce some good footballers, who will be able to serve the country in future.
The title sponsor of the event, Ashiyan City Group, announced a reward of Tk 1 lakh for the most valuable player of the tournament.
