Two schoolgirls drowned in a pond at Seriol in the Rajshahi city Sunday noon.
The deceased were identified as Bristy, Class VI student of Seroil Colony School, and Bithy, Class III student of Seroil Government Primary School.
Quoting neighbours, police said Bristy and Bithy went to a retention pond behind their house to take a bath at noon.
They did not know how to swim, so they drowned, they added.
Informed by a neighbour, who found the bodies of the girls floating in the pond, locals recovered the bodies and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The on-duty doctors declared Bithy dead while Brsity was also declared dead after one hour.
Boalia police officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman told New Age that the bodies were handed over to their family and two unnatural death cases were filed.
