The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police authorities have built up five-level security arrangement in the city to avert any untoward situation and to ensure peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Besides, cheek posts have been set up to strengthen security at three entry points — Katakhali, Naodapara and Kashiadanga bypass road crossing — in the city.
Uniformed and plainclothes police, special branch of police, detective branch, national security force also have been deployed as part of the heightened security.
Elite force Rapid Action Battalion teams have already started patrolling the city streets for 24 hours.
Police will take tight security arrangement around the congregation venue at Shah Makhdum central Eidgah as the city’s biggest Eid congregation will be held at the ground, RMP sources said.
Police and RAB will be on high alert to fend off any trouble.
RMP sources said over three thousand policemen would be on duty to maintain law and order.
The law enforcers are carrying out check on people and vehicles found in suspicious movement, which will continue unit the day before Eid.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner SM Moniruzzaman told New Age that Eid holiday of the officers-in-charge and other senior officials of the police stations have been cancelled.
Uniformed and plainclothes police, women police and intelligent agencies are on security duty at the shopping malls and important points in the city, he added.
Moniruzzman said also that RAB and intelligent agencies are on the alert to prevent snatching or deception.
