Popular actor Shahiduzzaman Selim is busy acting in Zahidur Rahim Anjan’s Rain Coat, an adaptation of Akhtaruzzaman Ilias’ story set against the backdrop of the war of independence in 1971.
Selim will play the protagonist of the film,
which won the government grant this year.
It is his fifth film.The whole unit is now shooting the film at the Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh. ‘The film will feature a three-day story of an ordinary college teacher in 1971 who is forced to be courageous because of the situation,’ Selim told New Age.
‘The character is quite interesting and has different dimensions,’ said Selim, adding, that he was enjoying the shoot, which is scheduled to continue till a day before Eid.
‘Well, the family will face some troubles,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Selim took two days break to participate in Dhaka Theatre’s 40th anniversary celebrations, which was observed on Monday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
‘Initially I thought I would not participate in the programme as I had given the schedule to shoot. But, I could not resist the urge to join the celebrations with the troupe with whom I have been attached for three decades. So, I took a break and Anjan and others allowed me,’ Selim said.
Selim further said that he had acted in several special teleplays and directed two Eid plays before going to Mymensingh.
‘I’ve acted and directed in an interesting play titled Sangri La in which the viewers will get all of us [Hakim, Zahid, Tauquir, Mahfuz and me] in a play. The big budget play [25 lakh taka project] filmed in Nepal emphasises the need for peace through the story of a tourist team,’ Seilm said.
Selim also acted and directed a comedy titled Bhutgulo Dakat Holo. ‘It is the third part of the comedy sequel, which Desh TV airs on every Eid day,’ he said.
Shahiduzzaman Selim has also acted in few other teleplays for Eid. ‘I must mention three plays as I enjoyed acting in those. I liked acting in Tanmoy Tansen’s teleplay Atopar Tahara, Juboraj Khan’s play Sabuj Dana Kintu Ure Jete Mana and Redwan Rony’s teleplay Baghbandi. In these plays I’ve acted with senior artistes like Asaduzzaman Noor, Champa and Subarna Mustafa,’ Selim said.
