The female madrasa student, set ablaze by her husband in Faridpur last month, died in a city hospital last night.
The victim, 20-year-old Monira Begum, was set on fire by her husband Sahabuddin Khan after the two got into an altercation over marriage documents on June 27 at Dhalaichar Village in Faridpur, said Monira’s mother Laily Begum.
She was rushed to a local hospital with 65 percent burns to her body, and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on July 5.
Victim’s father Kabir Molla, a day labourer, said he turned down Sahabuddin’s proposal for marrying his daughter a few months back as Sahabuddin was a married man.
Sahabuddin built a relationship with Monira and married her on March 8 using fake documents. He sent Monira back to her family home after a month, Kabir said.
Sahabuddin invited Monira to his residence on June 27. The couple got into an altercation when Monira asked him to produce their marriage documents. At one stage, he doused her with kerosene and set her on fire.
The victim’s family filed a case with Alfadanga Police Station against three people including Sahabuddin on July 3, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
