The King of Bollywood Shah Rukh has beaten global icons like Lionel Messi and Serena Williams as well as business moguls like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg in the magazine’s annual TIME100 readers’ poll.
Shah Rukh Khan, 57, topped the list of the most influential people around the world for TIME magazine’s 100th edition list. Shah Rukh Khan received 4 percent of the 1.2 million votes cast by readers in the 2023 TIME100 poll.
Shah Rukh Khan, who has made his name as Bollywood’s favorite romantic hero and has starred in blockbusters such as Dilwale Dulhania le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, continues to rule hearts with his acting skills, wit and candid manner in podcasts and interviews.
Notably, Shah Rukh Khan has an estimated net worth of £627 million ($770 million), making him the richest actor in Asia and the fourth richest actor in the entire world.
In January 2023, Shah Rukh Khan took fourth place in the list of the eight richest actors in the world published by World of Statistics after beating out other immensely famous and iconic actors like Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan and George Clooney.
The list, which also included Elon Musk, Lionel Messi, Prince Harry, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Meghan Markle, saw the Bollywood legend top the list. The actors stood above those of Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, athlete Serena Williams, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
It’s the magazine’s readers who voted for the world-famous people they think deserve a spot on TIME’s annual list of the most influential people.
Lionel Messi, whose outstanding performance during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar earned him and the Argentina team the coveted trophy, secured fifth place. Messi received 1.8% of the vote.
In second place are Iranian women protesting for their rights. They received 3% of the votes. The women also won the magazine’s Person of the Year 2022 reader poll.
Third came healthcare workers, who have been on the front lines of the pandemic since 2020, with 2% of the vote.
Also, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took fourth place, each receiving 1.9% of the vote. Harry made headlines around the world earlier this year after releasing his memoir, Spare.
Shah Rukh Khan has acted in over 100 films in a career spanning four decades. In 2023 he returned to the big screen after a nearly four-year absence.
Shah Rukh Khan has two more films in the pipeline, Raj Kumar Hirani’s Dunkee and Atlee’s Jawan. Jawan also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi and is set for a June 2023 release. Dunki stars Taapsee Pannu alongside Shah Rukh and will be released in December.
Shah Rukh Khan star Pathaan was a smash hit worldwide, earning over 1,000 crore worldwide. The Siddharth Anand-directed film broke more than one record and garnered more than a huge box office collection.
The TIME100 list 2023 will be published on April 13th.
