Paceman Shahadat Hossain claimed that he is innocent and has become a victim of conspiracy in child maid assault case that left him in the lurch.
Shahadat is currently freed on bail after more than two months in jail and has started his rehabilitation in a bid to revive his career that seemed all but over.Police on Monday formally charged Shahadat and his wife Jesmine Jahan saying that allegations against them were proved in primary investigations.
Shahadat, who was given permission to continue his rehab using the Bangladesh Cricket Board facilities in Mirpur, however, claimed that he did no crime.
‘I am innocent,’ Shahadat told New Age on Wednesday. ‘Everyone who knows me would testify that. I was not even at home on the day when the child went missing,’ he said.
‘A man’s dignity is his professional career and his honour. It seems to me that those of mine are being taken away from me,’ he said breaking down in tears.
‘I could not play at BPL [Bangladesh Premier League]. The team has many more matches in the near future and I won’t be able to play. What else does it take to break a player’s heart?’ Shahadat added.
‘I had to pass two months in jail with my leg injury. All I did was crying and praying to god. He (God) knows I’m innocent,’ he said.
Shahadat and his wife may get a sentence of 14 years if they are convicted.
