Nature has been recreated with all its beauty and magnificence in artworks by artist SM Shahriar for his solo exhibition titled Worship of Nature.
The ongoing 10-day exhibition at Dhaka Art Center in Dhanmondi features 35 oil paintings portraying eye soothing landscapes, beautiful women, whimsical birds, vividly green forests and life of the
commoners in midst of nature. A Shalik pakhi perched on the stems of an esculent plant (kachupata) has been wonderfully captured in Shahriar’s painting titled Kachu. A dove partially visible through the slits on large banana leaves has been craftily revealed in vibrant colours and bold brush strokes in the painting Kolagaachhe Ghughu.
A village girl collecting lotus from a swamp has also been skillfully depicted in another artwork by the artist titled Shapla Tola. The vast waterbed of the marsh abundant with white lotus flowers and the simplicity of the village lass snatch the attention of the viewers.
Another painting titled Brishti portrays two rural girls sitting closely to accommodate themselves under an umbrella during a heavy downpour. A wooden bridge (sako) in midst of greenery has also been illustrated in one of Shahriar’s painting, where at the further end of the bridge, miniature walking figures of a man and a child fading away in the mist have also been depicted.
The nature loving artist has also given the viewers a sneak peek of the thrilling landscape under the sea in his artwork titled Probal. Colourful fish swimming around the coral reef and sea weeds in the blue water of the ocean soothes the eyes of the spectators.
‘I have created these paintings partly from my experiences of nature and partly from my imagination,’ Shahriar told New Age regarding his artworks displayed in his first solo exhibition.
Inaugurated on May 6, the exhibition will remain open from 3:00 to 8:00pm till May 16.
