South Asian Games gold medallist shooter Shakil Ahmed could finish only second in the 10-metre Air Pistol event of the Suzuki 7th National Air gun Championship at the National Complex on Thursday. Sheikh Shahadat Hossain of Army Shooting Club, who returned to shooting after an absence of four years, grabbed the gold medal with a total score of 194.50 while Shakil ended completed his competition with 192.10 points.
Mohendra Kuman Sinha of Army Shooting Club won the bronze medal.
Shakil, who became fifth in the 10-metre Air Pistol event in the SA Games, was satisfied despite finishing second.
‘After my success in SA Games everyone was expecting me to win gold medal here,’ said Shakil. ‘But I am happy with my result as I had to compete with senior opponents.’
In the 10-metre Air Pistol junior event, Army Shooting Club’s Anwar Hossain, Firoz Howlader and Sabbir Alamin, won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
