Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Shane Jurgensen as the interim head coach of the Tigers.
This was decided at the cricket operations committee’s meeting which also discussed the proposed tours to Zimbabwe, Europe and Trinidad & Tobago.
“Our bowling coach Shane Jurgensen will look after the national team as the interim head coach until we appoint our next coach,” said Enayet Hossain Siraj, chairman of the committee.
The 36-year-old former Queensland fast bowler joined the Tigers in October last year.
“We have also decided to give our proposal regarding Zimbabwe and Ireland trips to the board for approval. We are desperately trying to arrange some international matches for our national team,” he added.
He also informed that the training camp will start from May 20 to prepare for a tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa that starts in Harare on June 24 while at the end of July, Bangladesh are set to travel to Ireland and Scotland to play some limited-over matches before their assignment to the ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be held in September in Sri Lanka.
It however looks like Shane Jurgensen will be doing the duty for a short period of time as BCB is very much hopeful about the appointment of Richard Pybus, who was returned to Cape Town yesterday after a short visit.
“Now we will wait for his (Richard Pybus) confirmation. We will invite the other candidates in the shortlist, if only we ultimately fail to sign the agreement with Pybus,” said BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus.
Pybus termed his visit as a “fact-finding” mission and he will make his final decision after talking with his family members.
Pybus’s appointment is likely to be formally confirmed within a week.
