Actor Sharon Stone has been honoured with the Nobel Peace Summit Award for her AIDS charity Work, reports www.dnaindia.com.
Stone bagged the award Thursday at the official ceremony of the 13th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Warsaw, Poland.
The 55-year-old has worked closely with US charity amFAR – the Foundation for AIDS Research – and also holds the office of campaign chairman for them.
Previous celebrities to receive the honour include Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel and Bono.
Sharon Vonne Stone (born March 10, 1958) is an American actress, film producer, and former fashion model. Stone was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
The second of four children, including older brother Mike Stone, she is the daughter of Dorothy (née Lawson), an accountant and homemaker, and Joseph William Stone II, a tool and die manufacturer and factory worker.
Stone graduated in 1975 from Saegertown High School in Saegertown, Pennsylvania.
The actor achieved international recognition for her role in the
erotic thriller Basic Instinct by Paul Verhoeven. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her performance in Casino.
