Table-toppers Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeated Muktijoddha Sangsad KC 2-0 in the Bangladesh Premier League at the Banganbandhu National Stadium on Friday.
After a draw with Feni Soccer in their previous match, Jamal managed their ninth victory in the league and they are only side to stay unbeaten.With this comfortable win, Jamal have earned 31 points from 13 matches and remained at top of the points table. Abahani Limited are eight points behind in second place, but they have played one match less than Jamal.
Muktijoddha have conceded their second consecutive defeat as they had lost their previous match to Abahani.
With the loss, they remained in fourth place with 18 points from 13 games.
There is a sweet battle going on between two team-mates of Jamal—Nigerian Ameka Darlington and Haitian Wedson Anselme as both are securing the top two places in the scorers list.
Before breaking the deadlock, Jamal attackers missed a series of scoring chances in the first half.
Alamgir Kabir Rana wasted a clear chance in the 40th minute as the unmarked midfielder got a through pass from Wedson but Rana’s attempt hit a defender’s body instead of hitting the net.
Muktijoddha keeper Russell Mahmud Liton produced a stunning save in the added time of the first half.
Wedson Anselme finally broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with a header from Alamgir Kabir Rana’s cross.
Darlington doubled the lead in the 77th minute as the Nigerian climbed back to the top of the scoring chart with his 12th goal when he headed a neat cross by Wedson from the right flank.
Muktijoddha skipper Maruf Ahmed fired a 35-yard free-kick in the 82nd minute but his effort was nicely parried away by Sheikh Jamal keeper Ziaur Rahman.
In the stoppage time of the match Maruf was again frustrated when he saw his another 30-yard free-kick hit the woodwork.
