Opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance has called nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal for May 2 in protest against what it called a pre-planned killing of people in the Savar building collapse. The hartal will be observed protesting the government negligence in the rescue operation leading to a greater number of casualties in the tragic incident. DHAKA, APR 27: Condolences continue to pour in from across the world for those who lost their lives due to the collapse of a multi-storey building in Savar. Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian parliament, expressed sadness at the death of many people in the tragedy.
Speaker Meira Kumar addressed the members at the opening of the day’s session on Friday saying, “We convey our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones in this tragic accident.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has also offered condolences for the death of many people in Savar building collapse.
“We are deeply saddened to learn the heavy loss of lives,” he said in a letter to Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni.
We extend our solidarity to the people of Bangladesh in their hour of grief.”
Couple in love commits suicide
Habiganj, Apr 27: A courting couple committed suicide by hanging themselves with a rope at Jirunda village in Lakhai upazila of the district early Friday. The deceased were identified as Sohel, 22, son of Abdul Awal, and Halima, 20, daughter of Azizul Hoque—both residents of the village, Officer-in-charge (OC) Nazimuddin Chowdhury of Lakhai Police Station said. Two more held in Bhujpur killing incident
CHITTAGONG, Apr 27: Two more people were arrested from different areas of Bhujpur upazila this morning in connection with the clashes that took place in Bhujpur area on April 11, police said.
Earlier, district police arrested 95 activists of Jammat Islami.
Three people were killed and at least 50 others including 10 policemen, injured when Jammat Shibir and Hefazat-e-Islam attacked an anti hartal possession of Bangladesh Chhatra League- Jubo League at Kazirhat under Bhujpur in Fatikchhari upazila on April 11 last. BSS
