Illias Ali Mukti Sangram Parishad has announced a dawn to dusk hartal in the district on August 29 demanding the return of the missing Central BNP Organising Secretary M Illias Ali.
On Saturday noon, Sylhet District BNP General Secretary Adv Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury called the hartal in a meeting at Chouhatta Point after a rally. The speakers at the meeting said that the movement for Illias Ali’s return will continue and gain momentum if the government does not return him soon.
It may be noted, that it has been over a year , the Central BNP Organizing Secretary M Illias Ali and 3 other BNP men of Sylhet went missing. The movements for the return of the missing leaders continue but to no avail.
The missing leaders were Central BNP Organizing Secretary and Sylhet District BNP President M Illias Ali, BNP activist and Illias Ali’s driver Ansar Ali, Sylhet District Jatiyatabadi Chhatradol (JCD) Vice-secretary Iftekhar Ahmed Dinar and JCD leader Juned Ahmed.
On April 17 midnight, 2012, Illias Ali along with his driver Ansar Ali went missing from Banani.
After this incident, Sylhet BNP and other associated bodies went on tough movement demanding Illias Ali’s return which led to the formation of ‘Illias Ali Mukti Songram Parishad’ in Sylhet.
On 22 March 2012, a JCD activist Mahmud Hussen Showkat was killed at Upashohar area in Sylhet and in this connection, District JCD Vice-Secretary Iftekhar Ahmed Dinar stood as the main accused. Iftekhar’s family claims a civil dressed law enforcer’s team picked up Iftekhar and Juned Ahmed from Uttara area of Dhaka City while they were in Dhaka to get bail from High Court.
On the other hand, after the disappearances, relatives received missed calls came from Illias Ali and Juned Ahmed’s cell numbers. But the law enforcers and Intelligence Divisions could not identify the secret of those calls. A general diary was filled in this connection.
