Miscreants killed two siblings and injured another Saturday night at Fenchuganj in Sylhet over previous enmity. The deceased were identified as Shahin Ahmed, 19, and Shamim Ahmed, 23,
sons of Chhanu Miah of village Kachuabahar under Fenchuganj upazila.
Shahin passed the HSC examination from Fenchuganj Degree College this year. The examination result published several hours before his death on Saturday.
Shamim was an employee of the Shahjalal Fertilizer Company.
Police detained the local AL joint general secretary Abdur Rab, his son Suhad and son’s friend Shakil on Sunday early hours for their suspected involvement with the incident.
Eyewitnesses said a group of some 8 miscreants led by Sohad attacked Shahin and Shamim at Sar Karkhana Bazar near upazila headquarter at around 10:30pm on Saturday following a previous enmity over a business deal. The miscreants were armed with machetes.
The perpetrators also injured Tamal Chanda, 25, son of Babul Chanda of village Nizampur as he tried to resist the attackers.
Locals took Shahin and Shamim to the Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared them dead, police said.
Tamal was shifted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on early Sunday after his condition became deteriorated.
Being contacted, Fenchuganj police officer-in-charge Shahidur Rahman told New Age on Sunday that the dead bodies
of Shamim and Shahin were sent to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.
No case was filed till Sunday 4:30pm.
