Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman finally hit the form to make an impressive start to the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open finishing the opening round in joint second with a four-under-par 68 in Anahita on Thursday. Siddik, who slipped to 61th place in the Order of Merit this season having missed the cut on quite a few occasions, fired five birdies against one bogey to share the second place with India’s Rashid Khan.
Siddik birded in the second hole only to return to square one with a bogey in the eighth hole before four birdies in the remaining holes put in a strong position in the US$1.9 million event.
Australia’s Andrew Dodt set the early pace shooting an impressive six-under-par 66 under windy conditions for the clubhouse lead.
Dodt, a two-time winner on the Asian Tour, fired one eagle and six birdies against two bogeys to hold a two-shot advantage over Siddik and Rashid.
