Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Bipul Bhattacharya is fighting for his life in a local hospital.
Bipul, also one of the premier folk singers of the nation, has been suffering from lung cancer for the last few months. As his condition worsened on last Saturday he was shifted to intensive care unit of the capital’s Delta Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment since September 27.
Doctors at Mumbai’s Tata Memorial Hospital diagnosed him to have lung cancer on August this year. But he had to come back home untreated due to financial problems.
Indra Mohan Rajbongshi, president of Bangladesh Lok Shangeet Parishad and fellow singer of Bipul Bhattacharya, urged the county’s cultural community as well as the whole nation to come to his aid.
“No one is coming up with any support. As a freedom fighter we should stand beside him and contribute to his treatment,” he said.
Bipul Bhattacharya, is among those freedom fighters whose singing gave direction to the whole nation through Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, the radio broadcasting centre set up by the then exiled Bangladesh government in the trying times of our Liberation War.
Abdul Hamid, speaker of parliament, visited ailing Bipul Bhattacharya on Saturday and inquired about his the health.
