The High Court (HC) on Thursday granted bail for six months to six BNP leaders in different cases filed on charges of vandalising vehicles, attacking police and blasting cocktails early March.
The BNP leaders are Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Amanullah Aman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Abdullah Al Noman and Moazzem Hossain Alal. In response to separate bail petitions, the HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order.
Barrister Ragib Rauf Chowdhury, one of the petitioners’ counsel told The Independent that among the six, four leaders except Aman and Rizvi have no legal bar to get released from jail following the HC order.
He also said, Aman and Rizvi are accused in other cases. Mirza Abbas got bail in six cases, Goyeshwar in five, Noman in five, Aman in six, Alal in seven and Rizvi in one case.
Earlier on April 24, a Dhaka court granted bail to three BNP lawmakers Moudud Ahmed, Barkatullah Bulu and Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and rejected the bail pleas of Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Amanullah Aman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Abdullah Al Noman and Moazzem Hossain Alal in seven vandalism cases.
The BNP leaders filed the petitions on April 9 challenging lower court orders that denied them bail in the cases.
