The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday inducted six more junior ministers into her cabinet, taking to 38 the number of the members on the council of ministers, officials said.
The president, Iajuddin Ahmed, administered oath to the new state ministers at, Bangabhaban, in the evening.
The state ministers are ruling Awami League lawmakers Shamsul Haq Tuku for a Pabna constituency, Abdul Mannan Khan for a Dhaka constituency, Motahar Hossain for a Lalmonirhat constituency, Jahangir Kabir Nanak for a Dhaka constituency, Kamrul Islam for a Dhaka constituency and Shahjahan Miah for a Patuakhali constituency.
Shamsul Haq has been made state minister for energy and mineral resources, Abdul Mannan for housing and public works, Motahar Hossain for primary and mass education, Jahangir Kabir for LGRD, Kamrul Islam for law, justice and parliamentary affairs and Shahjahan Miah for religious affairs
Hasina and the deputy leader of the house, Zillur Rahman, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
The newly appointed state ministers met Hasina at her house, Sudha Sadan.
Six new members were inducted into the earlier 32-member council of ministers in less than a month since Hasina was sworn in as prime minister on January 6 and a day before the ninth parliament goes into its first session on Sunday.
She formed a 32-member cabinet accommodating leaders from the Awami League and its allies to run the administration for five years. Five advisers to the prime minister were also appointed with the rank of minister.
The Awami League-led alliance won a landslide victory in December 29 parliamentary elections, after about two years of emergency rule by the military-controlled government of Fakhruddin Ahmed.
The alliance won 262 of the 300 seats of the parliament in the elections.
The BNP-led alliance of Khaleda Zia won 32 seats in the 2008 elections. The alliance had a two-thirds majority in the parliament in the 2001 general elections.
