The players’ status committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation will meet on Tuesday to decide the fate of six players who have allegedly taken money from more than one club before the opening of the transfer window. Zahid Hossain, Mamun Mia, Nahidul Islam, Shakil Ahmed, Mamunul Islam and Shariful Islam were accused by two different clubs – Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Sheikh Russell KC – of taking money from them ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
The player transfer window, which opened on August 24, has been extended up to October 30 from its initial deadline of October 23, as none of the ten clubs are yet to start their registration formalities.
The issue surrounding the six players has made things complicated for four of the clubs – Sheikh Russell, Mohammedan, Sheikh Jamal DC and Abahani Limited – who are all awaiting a decision from the players’ status committee before deciding on which players to register.
Mohammedan sent a letter to the BFF on September 10 blaming five players – Zahid, Mamun, Shakil, Nahidul and Shariful – for taking money from them but committing to other clubs later.
Zahid, Mamun and Nahidul played for Sheikh Russell last season. The trio reportedly received money from Mohammedan prior to the transfers this season, before ultimately deciding to stay put with Sheikh Russell.
Shakil, who was a Sheikh Jamal player last season,
allegedly took money from Mohammedan but committed with Sheikh Russell later while Abahani’s Shariful was also alleged to have taken a fee from Mohammedan before back-tracking on his decision.
Meanwhile, a show-cause notice was served by Sheikh Russell to their former captain Mamunul Islam, who was also allegedly thought to have committed to play for Sheikh Jamal even before last season was over.
‘The players’ status committee will sit on Tuesday with the allegations from different clubs so that a fruitful decision can be reached and the registration formalities can be completed in time,’ said Abu Nayeem Shohag, general secretary of the BFF on Saturday.
