Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club came from one goal down to secure a 2-1 win over Brothers Union in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
The other match of the day between Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society and Farashganj Sporting Club ended in a 1-1 draw. Brothers Union went ahead through Mohammad Biplob’s goal before Gambian forward Solomon King scored a brace to ensure three points for Jamal.
With the win, Jamal were jointly leading the points table along with Chittagong Abahani with 19 points from seven matches while Brothers remained in 10th position with five points.
Brothers took a lead against the run of play in the 20th minute when local forward Biplob headed home following a corner of Mithu Biswas.
Jamal drew level nine minute into the second half when Solomon King’s header found the back of the net following a cross of Javed Khan.
King put Jamal ahead in the 68th minute with another header.
Jamal were reduced to 10-man moments after the goal when Enamul saw his second yellow card.
Meanwhile, Farashganj finally broke their losing streak after a 1-1 draw against Rahmatganj in the first match.
Farashganj, who suffered four straight defeats after shocking reigning champions Abahani Limited in their second match, went ahead in the 20th minute.
Nigerian forward Chinedu Mathew provided a through to Shamim, who dribbled past three defenders before slotting home the ball.
Rahmatganj leveled the things in the 51st minute when substitute forward Elias tapped home from handshaking distance.
