Bangladesh top-flight club Sheikh Jamal DC began their IFA Shield campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Indian side Kolkata Mohammedan SC at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.
Playing their opening match of Group B, Sheikh Jamal went ahead in the 41st minute through a long-range shot from Haitian playmaker Sony Norde.Kolkata Mohammedan could have grabbed the equalising goal in the 41st minute but their Brazilian striker Joshimar missed from the penalty spot as Sheikh Jamal goalkeeper Ziaur Rahman made a brilliant save.
Kolkata Mohammedan though brought parity in the 58th minute through Ashim Biswas, who scored with a bicycle kick from a corner.
Joshimar though made amends five minutes from the final whistle when he notched the winning goal from a one-on-one situation with Ziaur.
Sheikh Jamal’s next game is against United Sikkim FC on Tuesday.
