The ‘High Commissioner’s Challenge Cup’ Twenty20 friendly cricket match between the British and Sri Lanka High Commissions invitation eleven was played on
Friday at the National Cricket Academy ground at Mirpur.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the British High Commission team scored 186 for five wickets in 20 overs. Set a challenging target, the Sri Lanka High Commission team finished with 187-2 in 15 overs to post an easy win.
Mojo and Rafa of BHC team were adjudged best batsman and best bowler for scoring a 101 runs (not out) and two wickets in four overs for 31 runs respectively.
Sithara Perera of the SLHC team was awarded the man-of-the-match trophy for his 105 runs (not out) and for taking one wicket in for 28 runs in his four overs.
Guests of honour were the British high commissioner and deputy high commissioner and Sri Lanka high commissioner who gave away the awards and medals.
This is the first of a series of friendly matches organised by the newly-formed Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Friendship Cricket Association with the Sri Lanka High Commissioner as the patron and Angelo Leanage as president, supported by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
An MOU was signed recently between the SLBFCA and SLC to look after SLC’s interests in Bangladesh.
