The Sri Lanka Under-19 team prevailed by 62 runs as per the Duckworth/Lewis method in the first one-day international against Bangladesh Under-19 side at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium on Sunday.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh U-19 team were bundled out for a meagre 137 in 47.1 overs with Abu Sayeem (43 from 66 balls) and Mosaddek Hossain (31 in 77 balls) lending some respectability to the total.
Binura Fernando scalped 3-32 and he was ably supported by Lakshan Jayasinghe, who took 2-12.
In reply, the Sri Lanka U-19 team were in a commanding position after
making 133-4 in 27 overs, only five runs away from victory, when rain halted play. According to D/L method, the visitors were declared winners by 62 runs as they were supposed on 72 for the loss of four wickets in 27 overs.
Sandun Weerakkody was the highest scorer with 62 runs from 80 deliveries. Jubair Hossain was the only successful bowler for the hosts taking 2-34.
The second one-dayer between the teams will take place at the same venue on Tuesday.
